You’re probably thinking “Oh No…What might be exposed about my business!!!”

The problem is, it is probably, little, or nothing at all. Or possibly just plain wrong information. This is a BIG problem for a business owner. Accurate listings are the first step in online marketing. More than 40% of online listings are inaccurate, incomplete, or missing.

Now, whether you know it or not, your business is already listed on many digital search directories, and missing from others. Google, Yahoo, and Bing, oh my. Facebook, Foursquare, and Twitter. Superpages, Yelp, and Yellowpages.com. Shall we keep going? What about mobile search on Android, iPhone, and Blackberry?

And as today’s technology blindingly zips by us, you have to consider the newest trends out there, such as in-car search and web browsing on your television.

The point is, there are hundreds of digital touch points out there today. On all of them, consumers are looking for information about businesses like yours.

Back in the old days of the print yellow pages (when’s the last time you used one of those?) you only had to worry about one listing. How can you know that your business is represented in the best possible light?

Now let’s also consider for a moment, the value and importance that each of these search portals place on sites with the MOST (greatest amount) of information that is relative to what the searcher is looking for.

As daunting a task as it may seem, if you want to be sure to kick your competitors to the curb, you seriously need to place your Website Design and Marketing profile on every search engine,Yellow Pages site, business directory, social site, mobile device and 411 service. Why go to that trouble????

Very simple. Because 90% of your competition IS NOT!!!

When it comes to Website Design and Marketing, you have to hammer every nail home, because every nail you drive is one in the coffin lid of your competitions advertising budget and results.

I’ll leave you with this assignment for the week. Whatever your business is, (Let’s say you’re a Plumber for this example). Go to Google.com, Bing.com, and Yahoo.com individually, and in the search bar (use your industry here) type in Plumber, YourTownName YourState. (Plumber, Frederick MD)

This is the fastest, easiest way to see how your current online information stacks up against your local competition. It is also a perfect example of where you are NOT being found, and just how much Misinformation may be out there for your business.
