Search Engine Marketing Tips: How to Write A Message Hook

An essential element of integrating search engine marketing with strategic email marketing is by ensuring you are not sending out poorly written emails because they only lead to upset recipients and increased opt-out rates. One way businesses are learning more about online marketing is through social media marketing training.

Following are a few strategic steps to take for better email optimization and increased deliverability:

• Place your company name in the “From” line for increased open rates.

• Write a “hook” to the subject line to increase curiosity and open rates. The goal here is to get someone to open the email, so write your subject line with only that objective in mind.

• Studies show that teaser words and colorful layouts have a higher open and click-through rate due to readers receiving an upfront “preview” of what the email contains. A huge percentage of email messages are viewed in the preview pane only – depending on the source, the stats on this vary from 45 -70 percent. So design with that fact in mind.

• Use alt tags, or alternative text, that displays when your images are blocked or appear when a cursor hovers over the image. For instance, it’s always a good idea to embed any images or image-rich headers with an Alt tag that with “buy” language towards your offer or call to action. This assures that your message will be seen even if the image is blocked by the email client.

• Make sure the most important offers, call-to-action, or move you want the reader to take is written at the top of the message for the best impact. The initial message must peak the reader’s interest and provoke them to take action within only a few seconds. With this in mind, make best use of that limited space and time so your recipient can easily see the offer and take action on it.

• Incent the recipient to take action after the email is opened. Depending on your line of business or the goal of your specific campaign, the action you seek may be response to a free offer to generate a lead or clicking on a link to make a purchase. Keep it simple – create obvious links in the email or make large portions of the email clickable for quick and easy response.

• Always include a link to your privacy policy and a clear, easy way for recipients to unsubscribe. Also, CANSPAM requires inclusion of a valid physical address or post office box.

If you are out to generate an increased number of leads and develop an increased online presence and exposure, you owe it to yourself and the financial future of your business to learn everything you can about integrating search engine marketing strategies.
