I did a Google search for the keywords “how to make money online”, (for people wondering how many written words does it take to get top Google ranking).
Here’s the top 7 results Google returned, and how many words of content that were present in the results.
- Position 1. 4,762 words.
- Position 2. 2,837 words.
- Position 3. 708 words.
- Position 4. 2,345 words.
- Position 5. 3,265 words.
- Position 6. 4,230 words.
- Position 7. 7,70 words.
Notes:
Some of these websites had information on them that had nothing to do with making money online.
For instance, the top ranking website had some of the dumbest ideas that I’ve ever heard on this topic, like “Babysitting”, “Rent out your car parking space”, and “Be an extra”, (as in a movie).
What on earth does babysitting or renting out your car parking space have to do with making money on the internet?
Anyway, as you can see from the number of words of content above, the more words that you have in the body of a web page, the better it is, or at least the better chance it has to rank on page one of the SERPs.
More On How Many Written Words Does It Take To Get Top Google Ranking Alexa & Page Rank
So here are the Page Rank and Alexa Rank stats from the same websites above:
- Position 1. Page Rank: 6 – Alexa Rank: 33,631
- Position 2. Page Rank: 6 – Alexa Rank: 2,070
- Position 3. PR: 4 – AR: 184,413
- Position 4. PR: 4 – AR: 176
- Position 5. PR: 4 – AR: 35,522
- Position 6. PR: 4 – AR: 2,049
- Position 7. PR: 4 – AR: 155,700
You will also notice that the Alexa rank is low on all of these websites, and the Page Rank is high. That’s how this works.
The higher your page rank the better. Your page rank runs on a scale from nil to 10.
The lower your Alexa rank the better. Alexa rank runs from below 10 all the way up to where they start keeping statistics, and I’ve seen a few pages with Alexa rankings of more than 20,000,000, when they were first started.
Conclusion:
In my humble opinion, if someone wants to rank on the 1st page of Google and other search engines, it would be in their best interest to write a minimum of 1500 words for their “article”.
Remember, you don’t need to try to rank each and every blog post and web page on your website.
What you should be doing is creating one good page with a keyword phrase that you do want to rank for, and then create other posts that “anchor tag” back to these posts.
On the additional posts use 500 to 700 words of content minimum, using keyword phrase that are related to the keyword phrase that you want to rank for.
These are just a few of the search engine optimization tips that I can come up with on the subject of how many words of content a website needs to get a page one ranking.
