If you are targeting leads and prospects via local search marketing in a local market, then it’s very important that you understand the psychology behind using the four options I mention below.

Years of research, study and application with local marketing have proven that if one desires to capture the lead and maybe even his friends and family, then it’s best to cast a wide net.

For local and regional marketing, local directories along with the search engines and maps allow us small business owners to laser target our prospects along with wide-reaching capture mechanisms.

When using local directories and you add your companies’ information, I am suggesting you post as many of the four options listed below, because these will cover most of the ways that prospects can and will connect with you and your business.

At the time when a prospect is hot and looking for information or ready to buy, you want to be visible and have as many ways to communicate with the individual.

4 Ways you can connect with your prospects using the listings in Local Directories:

1. URL – using your website or landing page is a great way to capture the searcher who is in the research mode and is looking for options. By displaying the URL in the directory listing you make it easier for the individual to engage with your business. If possible, use separate landing pages for each directory so you can test which ones are being viewed the most, the least and capturing leads.

2. Listing your Email can prove to be a plus and make it easy for searchers to contact you. By displaying an email your prospect now has one more way to contact you. In some cases they might have chosen to pass your business by but since email is their preferred method of communication, they decided to make the inquiry and now it’s up to you to woo them to your door, website, phone or lead capture page.

3. Local Phone Numbers – work great if you are marketing to a local or regional crowd. The reason behind this is that when people are searching for information or in the buying mode and have determined that they need to see the product or person in real life, a local phone number shows quick response and possibly instant gratification.

4. Social Media Links – permit you to display links to the social media that you use. If the directory will allow you to put these links in the listing, then by all means show them. This is one more way for you to connect with new prospects.

One of the keys to local search marketing is to think like a consumer. Yes, you heard me, think like a consumer. If you leave out the way that the consumer likes to communicate, this leaves you high and dry after going through all the time and effort to setup the capture process. Think about this the next time you are on the search engines seeking to find that widget or service in your local community.
