3 Easy Ways To Increase Your Search Engine Ranking

A high search engine ranking for your website is so important if you have the slightest desire to succeed in your online business – there is no way you can neglect this issue.

At least 80% of people looking for goods and services on the internet find their information through search engines such as Google and Yahoo. There are many ways to improve your search engine ranking, and here, we will concentrate on 3 ways which are effective and need the least work from your part. All 3 methods are free, and with some easy routine work, you will boost your ranking.

The first issue you should look into is your title bars on your website pages. These are the coloured bars at the top of each page. Each title bar, on every single page of your site, should contain the most important keywords and phrases, taken from the page itself.

Avoid using very long keyword phrases (long tailed) by keeping your keyword phrases to 5 or less. Also avoid repeating keywords more than once in the title bars, and make sure that identical words are not next to each other.

You can also increase your ranking with the use of meta tags. Meta tags have a limited effect when it comes to search engine rankings, however it is a free method, and every little help should be embraced, to pushing your website up the ranks of the search engines.

Meta tags are HTML codes that are inserted into the header on a web page, straight after the title tag. These tags are not seen by the users of the page, but instead, their main purpose is to give web browsers and search engine spiders, directions or data on various information concerning your pages and content.

To access the meta tags on a specific page, click the “view” tab on your browser menu bar, and then select “source”. You will then see the code that created the page. The meta tag code you are looking for will be in the beginning, after your title, and it will look something like this: meta name=”keywords” content=”… “

Insert your keywords within the empty speech marks.

One of the most important factors for search engine rankings is Link Popularity. This is based on the number and the quality of the sites you have links to. By just linking up with a large number of other websites, does not necessarily mean you will achieve link popularity. In fact, it may have the opposite effect if the web sites you are linked with are of low quality, so you will have to do some research, when you are looking for possible linking partners.

To assess these other sites, look at the quality of their product including the graphics and the ease of use. I suggest you stay away from direct competitors, and try and find websites that concentrate in a sub niche you are using. Then check the other sites they are linked to, and determine if your own site would fit in with the crowd.

Once you have found a good site to partner with, add a link on your own links page to their site, then contact the webmaster of that site. By writing a short email to them, and mentioning that you have added a link to their page on your site, you will insure that you will have the webmasters attention.

Tell them that you like their site and their products, and this is why you have chosen them to work with. Then give them the address of your links page, and ask them to check out the link for themselves. It is also a good idea to mention that they will not only benefit from the increased traffic your site will direct their way, but you will also increase their link popularity – of course this also works the same for you as well!!!

Now is the time to get straight to the point, and tell them that you would appreciate it if they would do the same, and add a link on their own links page, directed to your website.

Go through this same process with as many sites as possible, but always have in mind to frequently check if they have also added a link to your page. Over time, one way to check your link popularity is by using a search engine like Google, and typing in “free link popularity check”, which will show you what sites are linked to your site.
